At coders.sh ("we," "our," or "us"), we are committed to protecting the privacy of the developers, students, and engineers who use our platform. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your data when you visit https://coders.sh and use our learning content, challenges, and developer tools.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information to provide a functional and competitive coding environment.
Sign-in and account registration are currently disabled on this site, so we are not collecting new account credentials, OAuth sign-in data, or profile fields through those flows. The categories below still describe types of information we may process when you use the site (for example technical or usage data), if you contact us, or if account features are offered again in the future.
A. Information You Provide
- Account Data (when sign-in is available): Name, email, password, and GitHub/Google/LinkedIn OAuth details.
- Profile Data (when sign-in is available): Bio, technical skills, and social media links.
- User Content: Text or code you submit when you contact us, or content you post if community features are available. Some features only store what you type in your browser (see below).
B. Information Collected Automatically
- Technical Data: IP address, browser type, and operating system.
- Usage Data: Pages or resources viewed and similar signals our hosting or logs may record (for example when troubleshooting). We do not collect keystroke dynamics or plagiarism-style signals on this site today.
- Local storage on your device: Some pages save preferences or drafts (for example SQL challenge queries or roadmap checkboxes) in your browser's local storage; that data stays on your device unless you send it to us another way.
- Cookies: To remember preferences (e.g., Vim keybindings or Dark Mode) and, when sign-in is available, to maintain sessions.
2. How We Use Your Information
We process information based on what applies in context—for example legitimate interest in running a public website, consent for optional marketing, or contract where you have an account or purchase. Today we use it to:
- Deliver the site: Show pages, roadmaps, SQL challenges, and developer tools; diagnose outages or abuse using ordinary server or hosting logs where available.
- Browser-side features: Let interactive content run in your browser (for example SQL practice with sql.js) and remember optional preferences or drafts via cookies or local storage, as described in Section 1.
- Respond to you: When you email us, we use your message and contact details to reply.
We do not currently operate leaderboards, hiring or recruitment sharing from the site, plagiarism detection, or keystroke-style analytics on coders.sh.
3. Lawful Basis for Processing (GDPR)
If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), we process data under the following legal bases:
- Operating the service (including accounts when offered): Performance of a Contract
- Ensuring site security: Legitimate Interest
- Marketing newsletters: Consent (Opt-in)
- Compliance with law: Legal Obligation
4. Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not sell your personal data. We only share data with:
- Infrastructure and hosting providers: for example public cloud (AWS, Google Cloud), managed application hosting (e.g., Vercel), or dedicated/custom servers and VPS providers—used to host, store, and deliver the service.
- Content delivery networks (CDNs): When you use in-browser tools, your browser may request scripts or assets from third-party CDNs (for example to load SQL.js); those providers receive ordinary connection data from your browser.
- Analytics (if added later): We may use analytics or measurement tools to understand traffic; we will name specific vendors in this policy when they are in use.
- Payment Processors: (e.g., Stripe) to handle subscriptions, when you purchase a paid offering.
- Public Community: When community features are in use, your username and public solutions may be visible to other users unless set to "Private" in settings (where available).
5. Your Rights and Choices
Current site status: Sign-in and account registration are disabled on coders.sh. We are not collecting account credentials, registration details, or profile data through those flows at this time. Other processing described in this policy (for example communications you initiate, or CDN or hosting processing described in Section 4) may still occur.
Regardless of your location, the following describes rights and choices that apply when we process your personal data (including for any legacy account, or data you provide by email):
- Access & Export: You may request a .json or .csv export of your code solutions, where we hold that data.
- Correction: You can update your profile via the "Settings" dashboard when sign-in is available; otherwise contact us at the email below.
- Deletion: You may delete your account when sign-in is available, or request deletion by contacting us. We will remove your personal data within 30 days where feasible.
- Opt-Out: You can unsubscribe from marketing emails via the "Unsubscribe" link.
6. Data Security
We serve coders.sh over HTTPS so traffic between your browser and our hosting is encrypted in transit. Underlying storage and backups are secured by our hosting and infrastructure providers; we do not describe a specific at-rest algorithm here.
Interactive SQL practice runs in your browser (for example via sql.js loaded from a public CDN); it is not executed in our server-side sandboxes, and we do not run isolated "grading" containers for your SQL on this site today.
We aim to collect only what we need for the features described in this policy and to keep provider access limited to what they need to host the service.
7. Children's Privacy
Our platform is intended for users aged 13 and older (or 16 in certain EU jurisdictions). We do not knowingly collect data from children under these ages.
